Job Description:
Secondary SEN Tutor St Helens & Merseyside
Prospero Teaching is currently recruiting for an experienced 1:1 Secondary Tutor in St Helens, ideally with experience working with students who have SEN and SEMH needs.
We are a Teaching Agency that strives to make a positive impact in young peoples lives by supporting their education and personal development. Our Childrens Education Services (CES) team works with local authorities across the North-West to support vulnerable pupils currently outside of mainstream education.
This role involves delivering both Maths and English to secondary-aged students who require 1:1 bespoke learning plans to help them re-engage with education.
Contract/Position Details:
· Location within the community or pupils home in St Helens and the wider Merseyside area
· Position Secondary SEN Tutor (Maths & English)
· Type of work Contract / Part-time
· Start date November 2025 (after October half term)
· Duration Ongoing support
· Hourly rate Up to GBP30 per hour
· Hours Typically between 8am - 4pm (flexible daytime hours)
Requirements:
· Right to work in the UK
· Enhanced DBS on the Update Service (or willingness to apply)
· Overseas Police Check (if applicable)
· Two years of professional references
· QTS or significant tutoring/teaching experience
· Experience delivering both Maths and English within the UK Secondary Curriculum
· Experience working with SEN and SEMH learners (essential)
· Ability to travel within St Helens and surrounding areas
Further Information:
The successful tutor will be patient, empathetic, and able to plan and deliver engaging 1:1 sessions that incorporate both core subjects. A therapeutic and flexible approach is often needed to help re-engage students with their learning, build confidence, and support emotional regulation.
The aim is to provide structure, consistency, and academic progress for students, helping them move towards reintegration into an educational setting.
Prospero Teaching will work closely with you to monitor progress, requiring weekly updates to track each learners development and ensure the best outcomes.
Tuition generally takes place during school hours. Sessions typically last 12 hours daily or several times per week.
