Job Description:
Join a Dedicated Team Supporting Students with SEMH Needs
Engage Education are currently seeking experienced SEMH Teaching assistants to join a specialist provision. This specialist provision offers bespoke educational packages for pupils with a wide range of social, emotional and mental health needs. Working closely with local authorities, it provides tailored support for students with Education, Health and Care Plans, as well as offering respite placements and time-limited interventions to meet individual needs.
Every student is supported by a dedicated key worker who nurtures both their academic progress and personal development. Students follow a carefully designed curriculum that includes core subjects such as English, Maths, Science promoting confidence, independence and essential life skills.
Learners benefit from access to high-quality facilities including a gym, recreation areas and cooking spaces. The provision also coordinates alternative placements with external partners — including community organisations and local sports clubs — and offers in-house vocational opportunities such as Barbering and Hair & Beauty.
The Role – SEMH Teaching Assistant
The provision is seeking an experienced and enthusiastic SEMH Teaching Assistant to join its dynamic and supportive team. This is an exciting opportunity for a committed individual to make a genuine difference in the lives of young people who require a nurturing, adaptable and resilient approach to learning.
Key Responsibilities:
*Provide tailored support to students with SEMH needs, helping them to access learning and achieve their potential.
*Work collaboratively with teachers, therapists and external professionals to deliver individualised learning plans.
*Build positive and trusting relationships with pupils, offering both academic guidance and emotional support.
*Assist in managing behaviour through consistent and compassionate strategies.
*Support the delivery of both academic and vocational learning — including English, Maths, Science, and Prince’s Trust programmes.
*Encourage students’ social development and participation in enrichment and alternative provision activities.
*Maintain accurate records and contribute to reviews and reports as part of the EHCP process.


About the Candidate:
*Experience working with young people with SEMH, behavioural or additional learning needs.
*A calm, resilient and patient nature, with the ability to build strong relationships quickly.
*Excellent communication and teamwork skills.
*A genuine passion for helping students re-engage with learning and develop life skills.
*Ideally qualified to Level 2 or above in supporting teaching and learning (or equivalent experience).
