We are an asset and environmental monitoring company, offering both hardware and software systems to clients working predominantly in the medical, pharmaceutical and catering arenas; we supply, install and maintain equipment throughout the UK and internationally using our proprietary in-house software. We are seeking a motivated and hands-on Trainee Field Service Engineer to join our growing technical team. This role involves a mix of on-site service work (calibration, maintenance, and installations) and in-office engineering support (sensor preparation, wiring, and system configuration).
After full training is provided the successful candidate will be responsible for supporting the delivery, installation, and maintenance of our monitoring systems across healthcare, laboratory, and catering environments. This position is ideal for someone with a technical mindset who enjoys both practical fieldwork and problem-solving in an engineering workshop setting. The potential candidate would ideally be located in the Bedfordshire, Milton Keynes or Cambridgeshire area for efficient commuting ability.
Key Responsibilities:
*Conduct scheduled maintenance, calibration, and system checks at customer sites.
*Perform new system installations and assist with commissioning.
*Carry out on-site fault diagnostics and troubleshooting under guidance from senior engineers.
*Represent the company professionally while working in customer-facing environments (NHS, pharma, Labs etc…)
*Coordinate with the operations team to ensure site readiness, access, and materials.
*Conduct site surveys to assess installation requirements, sensor positioning, and infrastructure needs.
*Gather technical data and relay findings to the operations and project management teams.
*Document all work completed and ensure accurate data entry into job work sheets and systems.
*Prepare and modify hardware such as sensors, cables, and bespoke components for upcoming jobs.
*Contribute to continuous improvement of engineering processes and product builds.
*Complete engineering reports, service forms, and calibration certificates accurately.
*Configure monitoring systems and devices, including software setup and network integration.
Key Skills & Competencies:
*Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
*Organised, detail-oriented, and comfortable managing multiple tasks.
*Confident in engaging with on site clients and technical teams alike.
*Competent in Microsoft Office (especially Excel and PowerPoint).
*Adhere to good working practice (often work is undertaken in a Laboratory environment)
*Problem solving although assistance from others will always be available
*Provide excellent customer service
*Practically minded with a ’can do attitude’
*Ability to maintain a good working relationship with clients
Qualifications & Experience:
*GCSE Maths and English 5-9 Grade
*Any basic engineering experience desirable but not essential as this is a trainee engineer where full training and support will be provided.
*A basic understanding of networks would be desirable although not essential
*A basic knowledge of wiring and soldering would be desirable although not essential.
*Full UK driving licence desirable.
*Willingness to travel within the UK (occasional overnight stays may be required).
