Job Opportunity: HGV Driver (Class 1) - Night Shift
Recruiting on behalf of our client
About the Company:
Our client is a leading, independent, family-owned business in the UK, with a long-standing history of providing top-quality products and exceptional customer service. They are committed to supporting local farmers and communities and take great pride in maintaining a strong, values-driven culture.
The company’s mission is simple: to work together as a team, valuing everyone—employees, customers, and partners alike—and delivering excellence in everything they do. This collective effort ensures they remain the first choice for customers and a great place to work.
Job Overview:
We are seeking a skilled HGV driver to join our client’s distribution team. This role involves working nights on a rolling five-week rota, covering six nights per week, including weekends and bank holidays. The typical shift starts between 10 PM and 3 AM, and you will be responsible for the safe, accurate, and timely delivery of customer orders to wholesale and retail clients.
This is a physically demanding role, where you’ll be required to conduct vehicle checks, ensure compliance with health and safety regulations, and safely manage manual handling tasks such as loading and unloading products while working independently.
Key Responsibilities:
*Drive in compliance with all legislative requirements, being mindful of local communities and avoiding unnecessary disturbances.
*Maintain excellent hygiene standards and uphold the company’s and customer’s expectations at all times.
*Report any vehicle malfunctions, equipment defects, or breakdowns promptly, following the company’s procedures.
*Safely unload deliveries at customer sites, checking that all orders are present and correctly placed.
*Ensure proper use of loading and handling equipment, such as load straps, sack trucks, and trolleys.
*Build and maintain positive relationships with customers, representing the company with professionalism at all times.
*Strictly adhere to health and safety, food hygiene, data protection, and operating procedures.
*Keep the vehicle clean and well-maintained, including the cab, cargo area, and exterior.
*Ensure secure delivery of products at agreed times and locations, following all security procedures (e.g., alarm systems, door/gate security, and key management).
*Collect payments from customers when applicable, ensuring secure handling of money and customer property.
*Accurately log all customer details, order quantities, amendments, and payments into electronic or manual systems.
*Return empties to the depot as required, ensuring temperature-sensitive stock is properly handled.
*Cover for colleagues during holidays or sickness periods when necessary.
*Perform other duties as requested by your manager or supervisor.
Essential Skills:
*Full UK driving licence (Category CE or above) with minimal penalty points and a valid Driver CPC card.
*Digital tachograph card.
*Strong communication skills, with the ability to engage directly with both customers and colleagues.
*High attention to detail, with an analytical and methodical approach to tasks.
*Ability to work independently and as part of a team, managing time effectively.
*Comfort with night shifts and early starts, with the flexibility to work across different shift patterns.
Desirable Skills:
*Experience in the dairy industry or similar delivery/retail sectors.
*Familiarity with electronic handheld units (training will be provided).
*Forklift truck licence (desirable but not essential).
