Cover Supervisor - Secondary Alternative Provision (Ages 11-16) Location: Harrow
Contract Type: Long-term, Full-time
Salary: Dependent on experience
An established Alternative Provision School in Harrow is seeking a committed and adaptable Cover Supervisor to join their team. The school supports students aged 11 to 16 who present with challenging behaviour and complex SEMH (Social, Emotional and Mental Health) needs. Staff work collaboratively to provide a nurturing, structured, and engaging environment where every young person can succeed.
The Role As a Cover Supervisor, you will play a vital role in ensuring continuity of learning when teachers are absent. You will supervise lessons, manage classroom behaviour effectively, and encourage students to engage positively with their work and with others. This is an excellent opportunity for someone who thrives in a fast-paced, rewarding setting and is motivated to support young people facing barriers to education.
Cover Supervisor Responsibilities *Supervise classes during teacher absence, ensuring lessons are delivered according to provided plans.
*Maintain a calm, safe, and purposeful learning environment.
*Manage and de-escalate challenging behaviour in line with school policies.
*Support students’ emotional regulation and promote positive learning behaviours.
*Build trusting relationships with students and act as a positive role model.
*Liaise with teachers, support staff, and pastoral leads to ensure consistent support for students.
*Provide feedback on class engagement and individual progress.
Cover Supervisor Specification *Experience working with students aged 11-16, ideally within an SEMH, PRU, or alternative provision environment.
*Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
*Strong classroom and behaviour management abilities.
*Resilient, patient, and empathetic approach to supporting young people.
*Ability to remain calm and professional in challenging situations.
*A commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children.
*Must hold or be willing to apply for an Enhanced DBS check.
