Job Description:
Let’s get this out of the way, there’s no team to "lead," "inspire," or "nurture.". No people management, no coaching sessions, no "developing talent."
You’ll just be managing the thing that actually matters here: the payroll, and there’s a lot of it.
You’ll be running weekly, fortnightly, bi-monthly, and month-end payrolls - all end-to-end. Think high volume, tight deadlines, and the occasional adrenaline-fuelled Friday morning when someone suddenly realises half the temps didn’t get paid last week.
If that sounds like the sort of chaos you secretly enjoy controlling, you’ll fit right in.
You’ll need to actually know payroll. Not just how to press buttons on a system, but how the numbers get there in the first place. How tax codes work. What to do when someone’s sick, leaves halfway through the month, or sends in a timesheet written in hieroglyphics.
What you’ll be doing:
*Running multiple payrolls (weekly, fortnightly, bi-monthly, and monthly).
*Processing starters, leavers, and any "mystery" changes that land in your inbox.
*Checking and reconciling payroll data before and after each run.
*Handling PAYE, NI, pensions, statutory payments, and HMRC submissions.
*Producing payroll reports and answering those "why is my net pay different this month?" emails.
*Working with finance to make sure everything balances (and gently proving it’s not payroll’s fault when it doesn’t).
*Keeping up to date with legislation and ensuring compliance across all payrolls.
*Supporting process improvements, ideally ones that make life easier, not harder.
What you’ll need:
*Experience running high-volume, multi-frequency payrolls.
*Solid end-to-end payroll knowledge.
*Attention to detail that borders on obsessive.
*Calmness under pressure and a sense of humour when things get weird.
What you’ll get:
*An annual salary of up to £35k (depending on experience)
*Free parking - they’re in North Leeds
*Employee wellbeing packages
If you’re the sort of person who gets real satisfaction from a clean run, a balanced report, and the words "everyone’s been paid", then this might be your kind of place.
Apply if you want to actually do payroll, not just talk about it.
