Health & Safety Manager
Location: Newbury, West Berkshire
Salary: £45,000–£50,000
Contract: Full-Time, Permanent
Reports to: Managing Director
About the Role
We are seeking a proactive Health & Safety Manager to lead compliance and foster a strong safety culture across our operations. This is a hands-on leadership role, ideal for an experienced H&S professional from recycling or other technical sectors.
Key Responsibilities
*Develop and implement the company’s health and safety strategy, ensuring compliance with UK legislation and industry standards (WEEE, HSE, Environment Agency).
*Conduct site risk assessments, safety inspections, and environmental/fire safety audits.
*Prepare and maintain method statements and safe systems of work for:
*Mechanical and manual recycling activities
*Manual handling of assets
*Hazardous waste storage and disposal
*Investigate incidents and near-misses, identify root causes, and drive corrective actions.
*Deliver staff training, inductions, toolbox talks, and refresher sessions.
*Liaise with regulators, auditors, and environmental bodies.
*Oversee health surveillance, PPE compliance, and COSHH requirements.
What We’re Looking For
*Essential: NEBOSH National General Certificate; Preferred: NEBOSH Diploma or equivalent.
*3–5 years’ experience in health and safety management within technical, waste, or industrial environments.
*Strong knowledge of WEEE regulations, H&S at Work Act, RIDDOR, PUWER, and COSHH.
*Excellent communication skills with the ability to influence at all levels.
*Methodical, hands-on approach with a passion for building a "safety-first" culture.
