Senior Finance Officer
*Location: Huddersfield
*Job Type: Full-time
*Salary: £21.65 per hour PAYE. Umbrella payment route available.
*Length of role: Initial 5 months
We are seeking a dedicated Finance Officer to join our team within a local authority or complex organisation. This role is crucial for providing high-quality financial advice to senior managers, preparing and monitoring budgets, and maintaining annual accounts in compliance with accounting regulations. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in finance within a similar environment and be adept at using IT systems for financial record-keeping.
Day-to-day of the role:
*Provide a high-quality finance service within agreed timescales and in accordance with statutory and council rules and procedures.
*Achieve Service objectives through effective financial management.
*Maintain and improve financial processes to ensure continuous enhancement of the service.
*Assist the Finance Manager or Audit Manager in maintaining and developing the service.
*Maximise the contribution of team members through effective leadership and support.
*When based within Audit & Risk Management, produce audit reports that accurately reflect the work undertaken, supported by detailed working papers, and issued in a timely manner.
*Ensure all activities are carried out in line with the Council’s policies, statutory and financial procedures, and relevant legislation.
Required Skills & Qualifications:
*Qualified AAT, qualified or part-qualified CCAB, or equivalent experience demonstrating capability to work at this level.
*Extensive experience in a financial or resource environment within a local authority or other complex organisation.
*Proven experience in the preparation and monitoring of capital and revenue budgets.
*Proven experience in the maintenance and preparation of annual accounts in accordance with accounting regulations and codes of practice.
*Proven experience in the preparation of grant claims and/or other financial returns.
*Proven experience in the maintenance of financial records using IT systems.
*Proven experience of analysing data and presenting detailed evaluation for management consideration.
*Willingness to undertake an enhanced Criminal Records Bureau disclosure.
*Ability to travel to various locations as required for the job. Possession of a full and valid driving licence and a car available for work is desirable.
