Job Description:
Events and Caretaker Assistant
Part time – approximately 4 hours per week (flexible working, including evenings and weekends)
Location: Wallingford Town Council
Salary: £15.31 per hour
Reporting to: Events and Communications Manager
Wallingford Town Council is seeking a reliable, hands-on, and enthusiastic Events and Caretaker Assistant to help support the smooth running of community and wedding events, and to assist with caretaking and maintenance duties across our Council facilities.
This is a varied and rewarding position that would suit someone who enjoys practical work, takes pride in presentation, and is happy to lend a hand wherever needed.
Key Responsibilities
*Provide event support for community and wedding functions at the Town Hall and other Council venues.
*Assist with the setting up and clearing away of furniture, decorations, and equipment.
*Carry out general caretaker and maintenance tasks across Council properties and grounds — which could include painting, gardening, cleaning, and minor repairs.
*When no events are planned to work as part of the grounds and maintenance team to ensure facilities are safe, clean, and well-presented.
*Support with occasional administrative duties in the Council offices.
*Provide excellent customer service to members of the public, hirers, and event attendees.
*Be available for flexible working hours, including some evenings and weekends, to meet event schedules and caretaking needs.
About You
You’ll be someone who takes initiative, is practical, and enjoys variety in your work. You’ll be reliable, have good communication skills, and be comfortable working both independently and as part of a small, friendly team.
A flexible attitude is essential, as no two days will be the same — one day you could be helping set up for a wedding, and the next you might be painting a fence or assisting with admin in the office.
Why Join Us?
This role offers a great opportunity to be part of the team that keeps Wallingford’s community spaces thriving and welcoming. You’ll work closely with the Events and Communications Manager and the wider Council team in a supportive, community-focused environment.
Wallingford Town Council offers an excellent Local Government Pension Scheme and a positive, inclusive workplace culture.
