Job Description:
Financial Accountant
Location: Swindon
Hours: 37 hours per week, Monday to Friday (flexible between 8:00 am – 5:00 pm)
Contract: Ongoing temporary assignment (timesheets, no fixed end date)
Parking: Limited on-site parking; additional parking available at County Ground
About the Role
They are seeking an experienced Financial Accountant to join their finance team. This role reports directly to the Director – Head of Finance and plays a key part in managing income control, payroll reconciliations, and financial reporting. The successful candidate will also support other areas of finance as needed, demonstrating flexibility and a proactive approach.
Key Responsibilities
*Oversee income control processes, including monitoring ESFA Exchange and posting income to relevant hubs.
*Track and report on actual vs. budget variances.
*Coordinate SEN finance, ensuring accurate top-up funding and liaising with internal and external stakeholders.
*Ensure payroll controls and reconciliations are accurate, including pension accounting and journal preparation.
*Manage account reconciliations, aged debtors, and year-end audit schedules.
*Provide support and guidance to school finance officers and act as a positive, expert point of contact for Principals and other stakeholders.
*Line manage finance staff within SEMH secondary schools and apprentices.
*Carry out ad hoc duties as required.
Requirements
*ACCA qualified.
*Experience using Sage (preferred) and SEMA.
*Background in charity or education finance.
*Strong knowledge of balance sheets, reconciliations, and trial balance level accounting.
*Ability to adapt and support wider finance functions when needed.
