Locum Litigation Solicitor – Yorkshire Local Authority
Location: North East
Salary: £55-60 per hour umbrella
Contract Length: 3 months rolling
Reporting to: Service Manager (Litigation and Practice Management)
About the Role
We are seeking a skilled Litigation Solicitor to join our Litigation team. This is an exciting opportunity to provide expert advice, representation, and guidance across all Directorates on litigation-related matters.
Key Responsibilities
*Manage a personal caseload from inception to conclusion, including:

*Taking client instructions
*Providing ongoing advice
*Advocacy
*Reporting outcomes to clients

*Handle a diverse range of litigation work, including:
*Criminal litigation
*Civil litigation
*Education law
*Employment law
*Licensing

*Attend Council Boards and Panels, including Licensing Sub-Committees and Complaints Panels:
*Act as legal adviser to meetings/panels
*Represent the Assistant Director, Legal Services
*Advise members and officers on delegation of powers

*Represent the Council in Court, Inquiries, and Tribunals:
*Prepare cases and provide advocacy in courts where rights of audience apply
*Assess evidential matters and advise on litigation strategy
*Seek to prevent unnecessary litigation where it is not in the Council’s best interests

About You
*Qualified Solicitor with experience in litigation
*Strong advocacy skills and ability to manage complex caseloads
*Excellent communication and advisory skills
*Ability to work collaboratively with internal stakeholders and external bodies
