We are working in partnership with a welcoming and inclusive primary school in Plymouth to recruit a dedicated SEN Support Assistant to work one-to-one with a pupil with Global Developmental Delay. This is a mornings-only role, supporting a child with an Education, Health and Care Plan (EHCP) and an intimate care plan.
About the Role:
You will be providing tailored support to help the pupil access learning and daily routines. The role will include:
*Supporting communication and interaction needs
*Assisting with personal care in line with the pupil’s intimate care plan
*Implementing EHCP targets in collaboration with the class teacher and SENCO
*Creating a nurturing and safe environment to promote independence and confidence
*Using visual aids, sensory strategies and structured routines to support engagement
Requirements:
To be considered for this role, candidates must meet the following criteria:
*Experience working with children with Special Educational Needs (SEN), ideally with pupils who have global developmental delay or similar learning needs
*Confidence and sensitivity in supporting intimate care needs, in line with the pupil’s care plan
*Understanding of EHCPs and how to implement targeted support strategies within a school setting
*Strong communication skills, with the ability to work collaboratively with teaching staff, SENCOs and external professionals
*Patience, empathy and a nurturing approach, essential for building trust and promoting pupil wellbeing
*A valid Enhanced DBS on the Update Service is highly desirable
