SEN Teaching Assistant (Secondary & Post-16) Location: Shillingstone
Working Pattern: Monday-Friday | 8:30am-4:30pm (30 min unpaid break)
Contract: Full Time - Term Time Only | Temp-to-Permanent
About the Role
We are seeking compassionate and proactive SEN Teaching Assistants to support students with Autism Spectrum Condition (ASC) in a rural specialist educational setting. You will work with learners from secondary age through to college level, helping them access learning, develop life skills, and build independence in a nurturing and inclusive environment.
Key Responsibilities * Provide 1:1 and small group support for students with ASC during lessons and structured activities.

* Assist teachers in delivering personalised learning plans and differentiated activities.

* Promote social, emotional and communication development, modelling positive interactions and behaviour.

* Support students during outdoor, sensory and practical sessions including those involving animals (horses) and swimming pool access, with training provided.

* Maintain a calm, safe, and respectful learning environment tailored to individual student needs.

* Monitor student engagement, progress, and wellbeing, reporting observations to relevant staff.

* Work collaboratively with teachers, therapists, pastoral staff, and parents/carers to support holistic development.

* Encourage independence, life skills, and confidence in line with age and stage.

* Uphold safeguarding, confidentiality and professional standards at all times.

Note: Personal care requirements are subject to student need. Candidates should be willing to support personal care if required.
Essential Requirements * Genuine interest in supporting young people with SEND, particularly ASC.

* Ability to build positive, trusting relationships with students.

* Strong communication, patience, and emotional resilience.

* Willingness to participate in outdoor and animal-assisted learning environments.

* Full UK driving licence and access to own car (rural setting, limited public transport).

*Full right to work in the UK.
* Willingness to complete both Child and Adult Enhanced DBS checks.

* Ability to work collaboratively as part of a wider multidisciplinary team.

Desirable Experience / Background * Experience in education, SEN support, youth work, social work, care or similar fields.

* Knowledge of autism, sensory needs, or communication strategies.

* Experience with animal-assisted interventions or outdoor education.

* Background or interest in equine therapy, swimming support, coaching or practical skills.

Working Environment The school is rural, offering unique learning opportunities through access to animals and natural outdoor spaces. Staff receive training and support to work safely around horses and within pool-based environments.
