Senior Payroll and Benefits Administrator (6-Month FTC)
Location: London
Contract: Fixed-Term (6 months)
The Role
We are working with a client who are seeking a Payroll and Benefits Administrator to join their team, one of the UK’s leading private hospitals. This is a fantastic opportunity to support the Payroll Manager and wider Payroll Department in delivering a comprehensive payroll and benefits service to our staff.
Using iTrent (experience preferred but not essential), you will ensure accurate and timely payroll processing, manage end-to-end administration of employee benefits, and prepare staff communications relating to benefits and pensions.
This role requires solid experience in payroll processing, with exposure to benefits administration, pensions, and salary sacrifice schemes. You will be confident working to deadlines, prioritising effectively, and collaborating across HR, Finance, and third-party providers to ensure a smooth and compliant service.
Key Responsibilities
Payroll
*Process advance bank payroll each Tuesday for payment on Friday
*Support accurate and timely production of monthly and weekly payrolls for 1,450 employees
*Assist with routine payroll tasks (e.g., sickness, statutory leave, starters, leavers, contractual changes)
*Prepare and submit ad-hoc payments (e.g., taxi payments, benefit payments)
*Resolve payroll queries promptly and ensure data accuracy in collaboration with HR
*Maintain current knowledge of PAYE/NI and pensions legislation
Benefits Administration
*Handle benefit queries from employees and managers, providing timely guidance
*Monthly benefit administration & reconciliation: process joiners/leavers/changes, reconcile to payroll, investigate variances, maintain audit records
*Compile monthly benefit payment schedules for provider payments
*Act as benefits platform lead: content upkeep, troubleshooting, user support, vendor liaison
*Draft staff communications on benefits and pensions
Skills and Experience
*Proven experience in a payroll department
*Knowledge of pension schemes and benefits administration
*Familiarity with payroll software (iTrent experience desirable)
*Strong understanding of PAYE/NI rules and regulations including SSP, SPP, SMP
*Ability to carry out basic payroll calculations
*Excellent verbal and written communication skills
*Highly organised, methodical, and able to meet deadlines
*Proficient in Microsoft Office, particularly Excel
*Strong interpersonal skills and attention to detail
