Finance, Benefit and Debt Advisor
Location: Huddersfield, Dewsbury, Leeds (with in-reach to HMP Leeds and/or HMP Wealstun)
Contract: Permanent, Full-time
Salary: Up to £27,500 per year


About the Role
Reed Further Education is seeking passionate Finance, Benefit and Debt (FBD) Advisors to support individuals in prison or under probation. This is a rewarding role where you’ll help people overcome financial barriers, reduce stress, and improve their chances of successful reintegration into society.
Key Responsibilities
*Work with service users in custody and the community to resolve debt issues and access benefits.
*Deliver one-to-one and group interventions on financial capacity-building, budgeting, and reflective spending.
*Establish debt repayment plans and liaise with landlords, creditors, banks, and utility providers.
*Build strong relationships and create tailored action plans based on individual needs and learning styles.
*Promote additional support options (e.g., food banks, credit unions).
*Maintain accurate records and ensure compliance with data security standards.
About You
*Experience working with ex-offenders or marginalised groups.
*Knowledge of debt issues, personal finance, and welfare-to-work services.
*Strong communication, negotiation, and problem-solving skills.
*Ability to work under pressure and meet performance targets.
*Confident with IT systems (MI, spreadsheets, email).
*Flexible, self-motivated, and willing to travel (car and full driving licence required).
Essential Skills & Experience
*Background in advice, guidance, training, or counselling.
*Understanding of local labour market and employment opportunities.
*High level of administrative accuracy and integrity.
All candidates who register with Reed Further Education will have 2 years’ referencing taken up and will be required to have a DBS check completed. All offers are conditional upon satisfactory background checks.
