Job Description:
Janitor
*Job Type: Temporary, Full-time
*Location: Multiple locations including Force HQ/Newton Heath, Leigh, Longsight, Hough End/Greenheys, Claytonbrook
*Duration: 3 months (likely to extend)
*Pay: £13.40 per hour PAYE
A Local Authority is seeking 5-6 Janitors to join their team across multiple sites. This role is ideal for someone with prior experience in janitorial, caretaking, handyman, or portering roles within medium to large scale organisations. The successful candidate will be responsible for maintaining the cleanliness and functionality of our facilities, performing basic maintenance, and ensuring the safety and readiness of our workspaces.
Day-to-day of the role:
*Carry out basic maintenance and minor repairs such as replacing light bulbs, fixing curtain rails, mounting shelves, and painting.
*Perform high-level cleaning tasks including carpet cleaning using basic cleaning equipment and materials.
*Set up rooms for meetings and training sessions.
*Conduct weekly safety checks including fire alarm tests, lift checks, ladder safety, and asbestos monitoring.
*Engage in seasonal tasks such as leaf clearance, spreading grit during winter months to ensure safety in car parks, paths, and walkways.
*Handle equipment and furniture, involving lifting, loading, unloading, and carrying, as well as bending, pushing, and handling equipment.
Required Skills & Qualifications:
*Proven experience in janitorial, caretaking, handyman, or portering roles.
*Ability to carry out basic maintenance and minor repairs.
*Knowledge of cleaning equipment, materials, and methods.
*Good understanding of the English language, both verbal and written.
*Physical fitness to perform the demanding tasks of a Janitor.
*Basic recording/checking skills; training will be provided for specific checks.
*Understanding of health and safety regulations, particularly around manual handling, working at height, COSHH, and safe equipment use.
*Reliable with a good attendance and performance record.
*Must hold a full UK driving licence and have access to a vehicle with insurance for business purposes.
