Job Description:
An opportunity has arisen for a Senior Buyer to join a globally recognised leader in the specialty chemicals sector. You will be at the forefront of sourcing and managing raw materials from around the world, ensuring supply chain resilience while supporting new product development and business growth.
What You’ll Do:
As Senior Buyer, you will play a pivotal role in shaping the organisation’s procurement strategy by managing key supplier relationships and driving value across the supply chain. Your day-to-day responsibilities will involve:
*Taking responsibility for leading procurement activities for a diverse portfolio of globally sourced raw materials and products for resale.
*Developing an in-depth understanding of market trends affecting your assigned materials portfolio.
*Monitoring market trends and supply risks closely, and proactively implementing strategies to reduce costs and risk.
*Negotiating pricing agreements and managing tender processes with suppliers to secure favourable terms while maintaining high standards of quality and service to ensure no disruption to production schedules and business needs.
*Building and maintaining strong relationships with suppliers, monitoring their performance regularly to ensure compliance with contractual obligations and company standards.
*Participating actively in New Product Development projects by providing input on material availability, cost implications, and supplier capabilities.
*Monitoring forecast demand of all materials in your portfolio on a quarterly basis, and adjusting to new information in a timely manner, to ensure no disruption to production schedules and business needs.
*Maintaining accurate records in SAP systems including supplier set-up and price updates.
What You Bring:
Your background should demonstrate proven success within procurement or purchasing roles, ideally gained in manufacturing environments where attention to detail is paramount. Ideally, you will have:
*Degree level education or equivalent, preferably Chemistry or Chemical Engineering, though other disciplines will be considered if accompanied by relevant experience.
*At least two years’ experience in a similar purchasing role within manufacturing (preferably chemical industry), or five-plus years’ broader purchasing experience seeking progression into senior responsibilities.
*Demonstrated ability to take ownership of your portfolio with accountability for results delivered through effective planning and execution.
*Experience negotiating contracts and pricing agreements with external partners.
*Ability to work well under pressure and multitask in a fast-paced environment.
*High proficiency using IT systems such as SAP S4 (desirable) along with advanced Excel/reporting skills; MCIPS qualification or active study towards it would be advantageous.
