Mental Health Support Assistant - Hastings
Full time & Part time positions available
Are you a compassionate, resilient individual with a genuine interest in mental health and wellbeing? Do you want to make a real, lasting difference to the lives of young people who need extra support?
We are working closely with a range of specialist SEMH schools and alternative provisions across East Sussex, and we’re looking for dedicated practitioners to join their teams.
The Role:
As a Mental Health Support Assistant, you will support children and young people who may be experiencing:
*Anxiety, depression, or emotional regulation difficulties
*Trauma, attachment needs, or challenging behaviour
*Social, emotional, and mental health (SEMH) needs
You’ll work closely with teaching staff, therapists, and pastoral teams to help students feel safe, understood, and supported throughout the school day.
Key Responsibilities:
*Providing 1:1 and small group emotional support
*Helping students regulate emotions and manage behaviour
*Building positive, trusting relationships
*Supporting learning engagement and wellbeing
*Following individual support plans and safeguarding procedures
About You:
*A calm, patient, and empathetic approach
*A genuine interest in mental health, psychology, or SEN
*Experience working with children or young people (desirable, not essential)
*Strong communication and teamwork skills
*Ability to remain resilient in challenging situations
