Accountant
Chesterfield, Derbyshire

Reporting directly to the Finance Director, the Accountant will play a key role in the smooth day-to-day running of the finance function. This is a broad, hands-on position combining core transactional accounting with value-added reporting, month-end support and commercial insight.

A proactive, curious approach is encouraged, with scope to contribute to continuous improvement initiatives across systems, processes and reporting.

Key Responsibilities:

Transactional & Compliance
*Prepare and submit payments for authorisation
*Support and oversee credit control activity
*Support and oversee purchase ledger processing, invoice coding and VAT treatment
*Administer petty cash and company credit card expenses in line with policy
*Assist with statutory and regulatory reporting, including HMRC submissions
*Support the preparation and submission of VAT returns
*Review and approve costs
*Maintain accurate financial records
Reporting & Value Add
*Assist with the preparation of monthly management accounts, including P&L and overhead analysis
*Prepare balance sheet reconciliations, provisions and customer reporting
*Post and review journals, ensuring accurate records and audit trails are maintained
*Manage bookkeeping and reporting for subsidiary entities, including intercompany transactions
*Support budgeting and forecasting processes and respond to ad-hoc reporting requests
*Oversee stock transaction processes to improve accuracy, efficiency and control
*Produce and distribute KPIs to support business performance monitoring
*Analyse creditor balances to support cash flow management
Skills, Knowledge & Experience Required: *Practical experience across core accounting processes
*Working knowledge of VAT, with management accounting exposure desirable
*Degree-educated and/or professionally qualified or part-qualified
*Strong Excel skills and confidence working with finance systems
*High attention to detail with a strong focus on accuracy
*A collaborative team player with clear communication skills and a positive, proactive attitude
*Comfortable working to deadlines, particularly around month end; experience in a larger or more complex environment would be beneficial
