Finance and Assistant to the Bursar
Part-time 3 days per week | Fast-paced | Varied & Involved Role| 3-6 months temp
Are you an organised, proactive and adaptable individual with a solid grounding in finance?
Have you worked in a school?
Do you thrive in roles where no two days are the same?
If so, this could be the perfect next step for you.
About the Role
We’re looking for a capable, confident individual to support the Bursar across a wide range of finance and operational tasks. This is a highly varied position where you’ll play a key role in keeping the school running smoothly behind the scenes.
Key Responsibilities
Finance & Systems Support
*Entering and updating purchase ledger transactions on Sage, including backdating items not yet posted.
*Assisting with the migration from Sage to Xero once all data is up to date.
*Supporting ad-hoc finance tasks and ensuring accurate, tidy records.
Projects & Operational Support
*Assisting the Bursar on a number of ongoing projects.
*Helping manage recruitment and onboarding processes for upcoming hires.
*Managing shared inboxes and ensuring queries are dealt with promptly and professionally.
Problem-Solving & Initiative
*Being given issues and independently researching solutions.
*Running with tasks such as implementing a new credit card system from start to finish.
*Handling unexpected requests from staff or visitors - anything from arranging theatre tickets to booking ice-skating sessions!
What You’ll Bring
*A good understanding of finance processes (bookkeeping experience ideal).
*Strong organisational skills and the ability to juggle competing priorities.
*A proactive, can-do attitude and confidence working with incomplete information.
*Flexibility - this is a lively environment where things can change quickly.
*Enjoyment of a role that mixes finance, admin, projects, and general problem-solving.
Why You’ll Love It
If you enjoy fast-paced roles, like being the "go-to" person, and thrive on variety rather than monotony, this position will suit you perfectly. You’ll work closely with the Bursar, gain exposure to finance systems, and have genuine impact on daily operations.
Note - this role is subject to an enhanced DBS check
