Are you an experienced finance professional passionate about strengthening the impact of charities? We’re looking for a Finance Manager to join our team and play a key role in safeguarding our financial health and supporting the delivery of life-changing work.
About the Role
As Finance Manager, you’ll take ownership of the charity’s day-to-day finance operations, financial planning, and reporting. You’ll be the go-to person for all things finance, ensuring we remain compliant, well-governed, and financially sustainable. Working closely with the Senior Leadership Team and Trustees, you’ll help shape decisions that directly support our mission.
Key Responsibilities
*Manage day-to-day finance operations including AP, AR, payroll, and banking.
*Maintain accurate financial records in line with UK charity law and SORP.
*Produce monthly management accounts, cashflow forecasts, and variance reports.
*Lead on annual budgeting and support managers with ongoing budget monitoring.
*Track restricted and unrestricted funding, ensuring accurate allocation and reporting.
*Provide financial reports to funders and support bid applications with costings.
*Ensure compliance with HMRC, Companies House, and Charity Commission requirements.
*Lead the year-end process and liaise with external auditors.
*Maintain and improve financial policies, procedures, and internal controls.
*Oversee the Finance Officer and support non-finance staff in understanding budgets.
*Ensure the finance system (e.g., Xero, Sage) is accurate and fit for purpose.
About You
Essential:
*ACA/ACCA/CIMA/AAT qualified or qualified by experience.
*Proven experience in financial management, ideally within a charity or not-for-profit organisation.
*Strong understanding of restricted/unrestricted funds and grant reporting.
*Confident producing management accounts, budgets, and financial reports.
*Knowledge of UK charity accounting and SORP.
*Proficient in Xero and/or Sage, with strong Excel skills.
*Able to communicate finance clearly to non-financial colleagues.
*Highly organised, proactive, and detail-focused.
Desirable:
*Experience in a small/medium charity.
*Understanding of statutory funding requirements, Gift Aid, or charity VAT.
*Experience supervising or supporting junior staff.
