SEN Teacher – Communication & Interaction Setting (ASAP Start)
Location: Barnsley
Contract: Full-time, long-term (with potential to become permanent)
Start Date: ASAP
A specialist provision in Barnsley is seeking a passionate and skilled SEN Teacher to join their dedicated team. This full-time role involves teaching within Hive 3, supporting pupils who are working at approximately Year 1 to Year 2 levels and who have a range of communication and interaction needs.
About the Role
You will be working with pupils with varied and complex needs, including:
*Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD)
*Pre-verbal or non-verbal communication
*Intensive interaction approaches
*PECS and other visual communication systems
The successful candidate will play an integral role in creating a calm, structured, and nurturing learning environment where children can develop both academically and socially. For a strong candidate, this position may lead to a permanent post.
Essential Requirements
Applicants must have:
*Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) or an equivalent recognised teaching qualification
*Proven experience in a special educational needs environment, ideally within a communication and interaction-focused setting
*Strong understanding of SEND strategies and differentiated learning
*Experience supporting pupils with ASD and communication needs
*Confidence using PECS, intensive interaction, and similar approaches
*A patient, consistent, and positive approach to teaching
Desirable Experience
Although not essential, it would be advantageous if candidates have:
*Subject leadership experience
*Experience contributing to or leading an aspect of school improvement
