Interim Service Manager – Fleet & Transport

We are seeking an experienced Interim Service Manager – Fleet & Transport to join our team. This role offers an exciting opportunity to provide hands-on leadership and ensure the effective and efficient operation of the Council’s Fleet and Transport Services during a critical interim period.
Day-to-day of the role:
*Provide leadership and manage day-to-day operations of the fleet, workshops, and home to school transport services.
*Ensure service continuity and compliance with all statutory, regulatory, and safeguarding requirements.
*Oversee the fleet replacement program, focusing on the transition to electric and hybrid vehicles, and manage the implementation of telematics and route optimisation.
*Support major ongoing projects and potential service restructure, ensuring alignment with strategic objectives and minimal disruption.
*Manage stakeholder relationships across various departments and ensure effective communication and collaboration.
Required Skills & Qualifications:
*Significant experience in managing fleet, transport, or similar operational services within a local authority or public sector environment.
*Proven track record of leading services during periods of change, risk, or instability.
*Strong understanding of fleet and transport compliance, including statutory and safeguarding responsibilities.
*Demonstrable experience in managing operational teams and performance management.
*Experience in overseeing large-scale projects, such as fleet replacement and technology implementation.
*Excellent risk management, decision-making, and problem-solving skills.
*Effective stakeholder management abilities, capable of engaging with senior levels credibly.
