Job Description:
Reed Accountancy are excited to offer an opportunity for a dedicated Finance Assistant to join a respected and long-established commercial business in Darlington. This role is perfect for someone with a strong accounting background who is looking to further develop their skills in a dynamic and growing company.
Working for a small team in a SME, family-run business, you’ll be responsible for producing accurate management accounts, processing invoices, managing accounts payable and receivable, reconciling bank accounts. This position involves working with Sage to produce financial reports, input data and assist with budgeting and payroll activities. Your responsibilities will include:
*Perform daily bank reconciliations for both current and deposit accounts
*Accounts & Financial Records
*Accurately input all financial data into Sage to maintain up-to-date Management Accounts
*Record and reconcile all new HGV vehicle purchases to the stock book
*Raise and process vehicle sales invoices accurately and post entries onto the stock book
*Prepare and produce financial reports for directors, audits, and ad-hoc requirements
*Support with monthly management reporting packs
*Manage supplier invoices, from receipt to approval and payment, ensuring accurate nominal coding
*File invoices and prepare supplier payment runs for authorisation.
*Validate supplier costs against agreed rates (labour, and parts pricing), raising queries where necessary
*Assist with monthly payroll
*Support finance and operations compliance requirements, ensuring documentation and audit trails are in order
*Assist with internal and external audits
Required Skills & Qualifications:
*Strong knowledge of double-entry bookkeeping and financial reconciliations for journals (essential)
*Proficiency in Sage and Excel (essential)
*Strong organisational skills and ability to prioritise workload effectively
*Confident communicator with customers, suppliers, and colleagues
*Problem-solving skills with the ability to query and challenge costs or charges
*Ability to handle sensitive financial data confidentially
*Previous experience in a senior account assistant or similar role (essential)
*GCSEs (minimum grade C/4 in Maths and English) or equivalent; AAT qualification (essential)
