Finance & Payroll Assistant – York – £30,000
Chase & Holland are excited to be recruiting on behalf of their client for a confident and proactive Finance & Payroll Assistant to join their collaborative finance team in York.
This is a varied and responsible position within a supportive, smaller organisation, offering valuable exposure across financial reporting, planning, payroll and core finance operations. The successful candidate will work closely with the Finance Manager and gain broad, hands-on experience within a professional and well-structured finance function.

Finance & Payroll Assistant Responsibilities: *Assist with month-end, quarterly and year-end processes, ensuring strong financial controls
*Contribute to financial planning, analysis and performance monitoring
*Complete journals, reconciliations, and maintain accurate financial records
*Reconcile income and WIP, investigating and resolving discrepancies
*Support financial reporting and regulatory requirements across two FCA-regulated entities
*Oversee core payroll processes, working with HR and an outsourced provider
*Handle payroll queries professionally and confidentially
*Support audit and compliance activities
*Provide guidance to a finance apprentice and contribute to process improvements
Required Skills & Experience: *Payroll and accounting experience (AAT Level 4 qualified or studying preferred)
*Strong IT/Systems experience including Excel
*Excellent organisational and prioritisation skills
*High level of accuracy and attention to detail
*Confidence to take ownership of responsibilities
*Clear communication skills and a collaborative approach
*A dependable nature with strong accountability
