SEN Teaching Assistant - Autism & SEMH
Location: Burnley, Lancashire
Contract: Full-Time | Term-Time Only
Setting: Independent Special School


Job OverviewWe are recruiting a SEN Teaching Assistant to join a supportive independent special school in Burnley, working with pupils aged 7-16 (with some provision up to 19) who have autism and Social, Emotional, and Mental Health (SEMH) needs.
The school provides a structured, nurturing environment where pupils benefit from personalised learning, strong staff relationships, and a focus on emotional wellbeing. Staff work collaboratively to create a calm, safe, and engaging setting that enables every young person to thrive.
Key Responsibilities*Provide 1:1 and small group support for pupils with autism and SEMH needs

*Support access to learning through differentiated, sensory-informed strategies

*Promote emotional regulation, resilience, and positive behaviour

*Work towards EHCP targets alongside teachers and the wider support team

*Help maintain a safe, structured, and inclusive learning environment

*Monitor, record, and report on pupil progress and behaviour

*Support personal care and behavioural needs where required

Requirements*Experience working with children or young people with SEN, particularly autism and/or SEMH (essential)

*Calm, patient, and empathetic approach

*Ability to build strong, positive relationships

*Strong teamwork skills

*Level 2 or Level 3 Supporting Teaching and Learning qualification (desirable)

*Willingness to support personal care needs

*Enhanced DBS (or willingness to obtain)
