School Caretaker (Temp to Perm)
Job Title: Caretaker
Responsible to: Premises Manager / Headteacher
Grade: Scale 2
Salary: £26,656 per annum
Working Pattern: 3-week rota
*Week 1: 7:30am – 3:30pm
*Week 2: 8:00am – 4:00pm
*Week 3: 8:30am – 4:30pm
Temp cover requirement:
If covering temporarily before starting the rota, the working hours will be 8:30am – 4:30pm.
Purpose of the Role
To support the Premises Manager and/or Headteacher by carrying out general maintenance, cleaning, security, and caretaking duties to ensure the buildings and site are safe, well-maintained, and operating efficiently on a day-to-day basis.
Key Responsibilities
General Maintenance & Caretaking
*Perform a wide range of duties including:
*Cleaning (including bodily fluids)
*Basic plumbing
*Changing light bulbs
*Minor carpentry
*Painting and decorating
*Portering and furniture movement
*Room and event setup
*Grounds maintenance
*Escorting contractors on site
*Pool maintenance (training provided)
*Minibus maintenance
*Assist in managing the car park during peak times.
*Work indoors and outdoors throughout the year.
*Safely use equipment such as floor polishers, drills, electric saws, and similar tools.
*Regularly lift, move, and carry furniture or heavy items.
Site Presentation & Repairs
*Maintain high standards of cleanliness, safety, and presentation across the site.
*Arrange emergency repairs promptly to minimise operational disruption.
*Support with annual checks, inspections, and planned maintenance.
*Agree daily and weekly work priorities with the Premises Manager and complete tasks to required standards.
*Report issues or concerns regarding contractors or maintenance to the Premises Manager.
Contractor & Staff Liaison
*Liaise with contractors, cleaners, and other site visitors to ensure safe working practices and minimal disruption.
*Maintain confidentiality regarding staff and pupils at all times.
Grounds & Equipment Management
*Maintain the grounds to agreed standards, taking action where needed.
*Identify equipment or stock requirements and report these to the Premises Manager.
*Prepare rooms and facilities for school activities, events, and functions.
*Ensure all tools, equipment, and hazardous materials are stored securely.
Compliance & Administration
*Complete all required paperwork and site records accurately and on time.
*Follow all Health & Safety regulations, taking immediate action or reporting hazards when identified.
*Undertake car-park supervision duties to support the safe arrival and departure of students and visitors.
