About the role
In your role as Enterprise Risk Manager, you will make a meaningful and valued contribution from the outset. This role will provide a great opportunity to be part of the 2nd line Enterprise and Operational Risk Management (EORM) team which has the mandate to coordinate and oversee all risk management and control activities across USS. This role reports directly into the Group Head of Enterprise & Operational Risk Management.
The Enterprise Risk Manager will work closely with stakeholders across the business to monitor risks, ensuring that they are within the approved Board’s risk appetite, to embed risk awareness and culture, and to support a range of risk management activities, including deep dives, emerging risk, top risk, risk appetite, and Risk and Control Self Assessment (RCSA) reviews.
Additionally, they will lead on certain aspects of implementation of the enterprise risk management (ERM) framework. This role requires good knowledge and practical experience of risk management within a financial services firm.
What you will be doing
As a trusted part of the Group Risk and Funding team you will be responsible for:
Delivering Results
*Work with the first line of defence to identify potential risks and implement adequate mitigation.
*Lead deep dive reviews to assess the adequacy of the control environment.
*Lead the emerging risk & top risk identification and assessment process.
*Lead the yearly risk appetite review process.
*Develop and produce insightful management information
*Support our risk governance processes.
*Lead the EORM quarterly risk forum meeting.
*Contribute to strengthening firm-wide risk awareness and culture.
*Develop and maintain the ERM framework (including control assurance standards).
*Develop and maintain the risk taxonomy and control library.
*Leverage the risk system, Protecht, to embed the ERM framework across USS.
*Establish and implement risk policies and procedures.
Managing Relationships
*Close collaboration with the EORM, information security, compliance, and the 1st line business control teams.
Managing Processes & Future Focus
*Identify opportunities to enhance current risk processes with a particular focus on simplification.
*Stay updated on new regulations and industry standards through regular attendance at seminars, workshops, and conferences.
About you

To be successful in the role you will have:
*A proven track record in risk management, preferably within a financial services firm.
*Expertise in the design and implementation of ERM frameworks (including control assurance) in a financial services firm.
*Experience and knowledge of model risk frameworks is a plus.
*Excellent stakeholder management, project management, and problem-solving skills.
*To be tech and data savvy with the ability to innovate, create, and analyse data to generate meaningful and important business and risk insights.
*Experience of Copilot or an equivalent generative AI tool is a plus.
