Job Description:
We are recruiting for a Street Works Officer to join a high-profile public-sector organisation on an interim contract.
Key Details
*Location: Civic Centre, Wembley – 100% Office-Based
*Working Hours: Monday to Friday, 09:00 – 17:00 (35–37 hours per week)
*Salary: £28 per hour Umbrella
*Start date: ASAP, End Date: currently till end of March, will be extended till end of June
Main Duties and Responsibilities
*To supervise staff on site:
*Attendance on site
*Direction of trade operatives to fulfil job requirements as necessary
*Dealing with any issues that arise on site
*Checks on health and safety procedures being followed
*Variation of jobs as required
*Ensure incidents are reported as necessary
*To carry out regular meetings with staff including skills assessments, tool box talks, one to ones, van stock checks.
*To be responsible for determining work programmes, ensuring that programming of work is in the right order at the right time.
*To supervise the effective use of resources – staff, materials and transport. Ensuring that the right tradesmen are in the right place using the correct materials.
*To monitor the effectiveness of how the work is delivered and make recommendations to the Manager on what improvements could be made to improve the efficiency of the services provided.
*To monitor the productivity and quality of work of individual staff and address training needs and development where necessary.
*To supervise all work on site and ensure it is carried out effectively as per instructions, in an efficient and cost effective way.
*To be responsible for selection and supervision of sub- contractors, ensuring they are engaged and work in accordance with Reading Borough Council’s policies and procedures.
*To be responsible for dealing with disciplinary issues in the first instance.
*To be responsible for ensuring that apprentices and trainees receive a balanced programme of training in accordance with their training plans
*To be responsible for ensuring that all Health and Safety policies are adhered to and all employees are adequately trained.
*To ensure work is carried out in line with the Council’s Customer Care, Equal Opportunities policies and sustainability objectives.
*To provide on the job training and induction for new staff.
*To manage procurement of materials from suppliers. To prepare specifications for work to be undertaken both internally and externally.
*To be responsible for authorising time sheets and job tickets and processing job tickets through the status flow process to approval.
Qualifications/Education/Training
*Must have served a recognised apprenticeship or have City & Guilds qualification or equivalent.
*SMSTS or IOSH accreditation preferred but not essential.
Skills, Abilities & Competencies
*Ability to show an effective understanding of Equal Opportunities policy.
*Essential they can work effectively as part of a team and can organise others into effective team working.
*Ability to deal with demanding or abusive customers using tact and diplomacy
*Ability to deal with all aspects of Health and Safety especially CDM.
*Must have a detailed knowledge of all relevant building construction legislation and regulations.
Specific Working Requirements
*Hold a current driving licence and have access to transport.
*Flexible working hours to meet the needs of the service.
