Behaviour & Progress Officer – East London (Short-Term / Interim)
£20–£21 per hour

A high-performing secondary school in East London is seeking an experienced Behaviour & Progress Officer to join their inclusion and pastoral team on a short-term basis. This is an exciting opportunity to work in a supportive, committed environment focused on helping students overcome barriers and achieve their full potential.
In this role, you’ll play a crucial part in improving student behaviour, attendance, wellbeing and academic engagement. You’ll work closely with the local learning centre, pastoral staff, teachers and external agencies to support targeted students and create a positive, structured school experience.
You’ll have a visible presence across the school and will support daily operations including attendance monitoring, behaviour interventions, reintegration processes and pastoral care.
As the Behaviour & Progress Officer, your key responsibilities will include:
Student Behaviour & Support
*Identifying and helping students overcome barriers to learning.
*Implementing strategies to improve behaviour, punctuality, homework and engagement.
*Supporting behaviour investigations, action plans and follow-up interventions.
*Delivering small-group workshops aligned with PSHE guidelines.
*Providing mentoring, 1:1 support, and in-class behaviour support as needed.
Attendance & Progress
*Leading personalised attendance plans (PAPs) with targeted students.
*Meeting students daily/weekly to monitor progress.
*Conducting home visits to support improved attendance across year groups.
*Ensuring outstanding attendance and punctuality for a key stage or year group.
Pastoral & Safeguarding
*Supporting reintegration of students following exclusions or absence.
*Liaising with parents/carers, the safeguarding team and external agencies.
*Contributing to CIN meetings, core groups, PSP reviews and pastoral planning.
*Maintaining accurate records on SIMS, spreadsheets and online platforms.
School Presence & Collaboration
*Being highly visible at key times: before school, lesson transitions, break and lunch.
*Supporting with detentions, internal exclusions and supervision duties.
*Working collaboratively with SLT, teachers and the Stepney Learning Centre.
*Attending school events such as parent evenings and relevant CPD.
