Job Description:
An exceptional opportunity has arisen for a highly qualified and experienced Russian Mathematics Tutor to support an 8-year-old boy who is currently educated at home within a structured and academically ambitious environment. Based in Oxshott, this is a part-time role for a specialist able to deliver a rigorous and concept-driven mathematics programme.
The family are seeking a tutor with a strong foundation in the tradition commonly referred to as "Old School Russian Mathematics." Their priority is the development of deep conceptual understanding, logical reasoning, and genuine mathematical thinking. The successful candidate will build strong foundations and guide the student towards advanced and Olympiad-level mathematics once core skills are securely established.
This role requires a structured and methodical educator who can deliver engaging, intellectually stimulating lessons while maintaining high academic expectations. The programme will be built around recognised Russian mathematics textbooks, including Peterson, Geydeman, and Abramson, and familiarity with these authors and their methodology is essential.
Sessions will take place 3–4 times per week (duration to be agreed) at the family home. The tutor will work within a wider home education framework and may liaise with the family and other educators to ensure a cohesive academic approach.
DUTIES TO INCLUDE BUT NOT LIMITED TO:
*Delivering structured, high-level mathematics tuition 3–4 times per week
*Building strong foundations in mathematical reasoning and problem-solving
*Teaching in line with traditional Russian mathematics methodology
*Preparing the student for progression to advanced and Olympiad-level mathematics
*Planning and adapting a long-term, structured learning programme
*Using Peterson, Geydeman, Abramson, or equivalent specialist materials
*Monitoring progress and providing clear feedback to the family
*Creating a focused, engaging, and intellectually stimulating learning environment
ESSENTIAL CRITERIA:
*Native Russian speaker or fluent Russian
*Strong academic background in Mathematics
*Proven experience teaching within specialist Russian mathematics programmes (e.g. Matclass 2x2, School 57, L2Sh, or similar)
*Experience preparing students for mathematics competitions or Olympiads
*Familiarity with Peterson, Geydeman, Abramson methodology
*Structured, methodical, and academically rigorous teaching style
*Professional, reliable, and able to work independently
*Excellent communication skills and ability to engage young learners
*Excellent checkable references and proven experience in similar roles
