A major UK regulatory institution overseeing complex system and market frameworks is seeking a senior legal professional to join its legal team on a 9-month contract, with strong potential to extend. The organisation leads high-value infrastructure and regulatory reform programmes and works across fast-evolving technical markets. The legal team includes experienced lawyers from both public and private sector backgrounds.

Your new role
As a senior legal professional, you will take a strategic role in shaping and guiding major regulatory reform initiatives. This position involves senior-level advisory work, complex legal analysis, and the development of regulatory and legislative frameworks. You will work with senior policy stakeholders on projects that have national commercial and infrastructure significance.You will be responsible for:
*Providing high-level public and regulatory law advice on complex, system-wide reform projects
*Leading the legal approach to technical regulatory changes, new market arrangements, and system design
*Drafting and interpreting legislation, regulatory codes, and guidance
*Managing advisory work independently and coordinating with senior internal partners
*Working within a high-performing team handling technically demanding subject matter

What you’ll need to succeed
You must be a qualified solicitor or barrister with extensive experience in public law, energy regulation, or a comparable technical regulatory environment. This role requires strong judgement, autonomy, and an ability to lead on large-scale, multidimensional policy and regulatory issues, and is typically suited to candidates with at least 5 years’ PQE.The ideal candidate may have experience from:
*Senior roles within government or public bodies
*Major law firms with regulatory or infrastructure expertise
*Complex in-house regulatory or utilities environments
Candidates qualified in the UK or Antipodeans with UK experience are welcome.
