Role: Assistant Financial Accountant
Location: Ashby-de-la-Zouch (hybrid working model)
Contract: 12 months- possibility of extension
Job Description
We are seeking an Assistant Financial Accountant to join a dynamic finance team in Ashby-de-la-Zouch. This role offers the chance to gain broad financial accounting experience while working in a flexible hybrid model. You will support day-to-day General Ledger operations, assist in month-end reporting, and work closely with the Financial Controller to ensure accounts are accurate, compliant with accounting standards, and meet statutory requirements.
Key Responsibilities
*Month-End Close: Support the Financial Controller to deliver a smooth and accurate month-end close, including posting journal entries, reconciling accounts, and intercompany reporting.
*VAT Returns: Prepare and submit monthly VAT returns accurately and on time.
*Financial Reporting: Assist with balance sheet review, account reconciliations, and statutory/tax reporting. Support completion of surveys as required (e.g., ONS surveys).
*Fixed Assets: Maintain the Fixed Asset Register and manage the Capex process from start to finish.
*ERP/SAP Support: Assist with financial accounting tasks related to ERP/SAP system implementation.
*Ad Hoc Support: Provide support for internal and external reporting requirements and wider business needs.
*Team Collaboration: Act as cover for colleagues during absences and maintain strong working relationships with finance teams across the business.
Qualifications & Experience
*Part-qualified in CIMA, ACCA, or AAT.
*Ideally 3+ years’ finance experience, preferably in a smaller or less complex industry.
*Strong knowledge of accounting principles and statutory requirements.
*Excellent numerical skills and a keen eye for detail.
*Ability to work collaboratively, flexibly, and under pressure to meet monthly reporting deadlines.
*Effective communication skills, capable of engaging with all levels of the business and external stakeholders.
*Financial accounting experience, advanced Excel skills.
*Desirable: SAP experience, experience with ERP/finance systems, and process improvement initiatives.
*Strong understanding of accounting standards and regulatory compliance.
*High level of accuracy and attention to detail.
