Job Description:
Senior EcologistSalary: £35,000 – £40,000 per annum
Location: Primarily office-based with 1–2 days WFH per week
The OpportunityAn established multidisciplinary environmental consultancy is seeking an enthusiastic and motivated Senior Ecologist with a minimum of 2-3 years’ relevant experience (or equivalent).
We welcome applications from candidates who meet 80% or more of the criteria below. We recognise that not every candidate will meet every requirement and value transferable skills. Both in-house and external training are available to support professional development and software proficiency.
Qualifications*BSc in Ecology (or similar discipline)
*MSc in Environmental Science (or equivalent) – desirable
*Associate CIEEM working towards Full Membership
*Position and salary dependent on experience and licence capability

Key Responsibilities*Lead and support team members
*Manage minor team operations and project elements
*Plan and resource ecological surveys
*Undertake a full range of ecological and specialist surveys
*Produce high-quality technical reports (including specialist reports)
*Contribute to business development activities
*Manage client liaison, including larger and more complex projects
*Mentor and support junior staff development
*Assist with fee proposals and tender submissions
*Contribute to project budget and time management
*Ensure health & safety compliance across team activities
Technical Expertise*Specialist knowledge of PEA and UK Habitat Surveys, including complex sites and rarer habitats
*Competent in a full range of protected species surveys
*Experience undertaking specialist surveys
*Holder of protected species licences (e.g., GCN, Dormouse; Bat licence desirable)
*Strong understanding of UK/EU ecological legislation and planning policy
*Familiar with industry standards and best practice guidance
*Proficient in data collation, interpretation, and analysis
*Strong GIS and mapping capability
*High-level report writing skills, including EIA experience (desirable)
*Ability to peer review reports and assist with template development
*Experience across multiple sectors (e.g., Quarry, Rail, Road, Energy, Industrial)
*Confident in advising clients on survey requirements, mitigation strategies, and regulatory compliance
