Salary: £33,000-£35,000
Hours: 37.5 per week
Holiday: 25 days + Bank Holidays


An established and growing organisation based in Knowsley is seeking an experienced Payroll Officer to manage UK payroll in partnership with an external payroll provider.


This is an excellent opportunity for a payroll professional currently working in a bureau, or someone with previous bureau or outsourced payroll experience, who is looking to move into an in-house environment with greater ownership and visibility.


This is a standalone role within the Finance team, working closely with HR and reporting directly to the Financial Controller.
The Role

This is a hands-on payroll coordination position covering weekly and monthly payroll cycles. The role requires strong Excel capability and a high level of accuracy.


Key responsibilities include:
*Managing weekly and monthly payroll processes

*Collating and consolidating Excel timesheets into master payroll spreadsheets

*Submitting payroll data to an external payroll bureau

*Checking, validating and reconciling payroll reports

*Processing expenses, allowances, bonuses and salary sacrifice arrangements

*Managing statutory payments including SSP, SMP and SPP

*Ensuring compliance with PAYE, NIC and HMRC requirements

*Posting payroll journals and supporting audit processes

*Acting as the primary internal contact for payroll-related queries



This role requires the ability to work independently in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment.
Candidate Profile

The successful candidate will have:
*Proven experience coordinating or managing weekly and monthly payroll

*Experience working within a payroll bureau or alongside an outsourced payroll provider

*Strong working knowledge of PAYE, NIC, statutory payments and HMRC compliance

*Advanced Excel skills, including VLOOKUPs, pivot tables, formulas and data validation

*Excellent attention to detail and organisational skills

*Confidence working in a standalone payroll position



A CIPP qualification would be advantageous but is not essential.
