Job Title: Information Governance Officer – Legal (Temporary)
Location: Swindon (Hybrid – Civic Campus, Euclid Street)
Contract: 12 Weeks Temporary
Hours: 37 hours per week
Start Date: 17 March 2026
Rates:
*PAYE: £150 per day
*Umbrella/Ltd: £202.63 per day
*IR35 Status: Inside IR35
Ribble Recruitment is assisting a public sector organisation with the recruitment of an Information Governance Officer on a temporary basis. We are managing candidate sourcing, screening, and the initial stages of the recruitment process on behalf of the hiring organisation.
The RoleThis role sits within the Legal Services / Information Governance function and supports the organisation in meeting its statutory obligations under data protection and freedom of information legislation.
The successful candidate will provide professional Information Governance (IG) support, including SAR and FOI casework, peer review and quality assurance, information risk management, and advisory support to internal services. The role will also contribute to Data Protection Impact Assessments (DPIAs), minor data breach assessments, and records management improvements across the organisation.
Key ResponsibilitiesOperational IG Casework*Lead or support Subject Access Requests (SARs) and Freedom of Information (FOI) requests, including complex document redaction.
*Coordinate responses and ensure statutory deadlines are met.
*Conduct peer reviews and quality assurance of redaction work completed by Information Access Officers or other staff.
*Provide guidance to services on exemptions, redaction standards, and information governance best practice.
Information Risk & Compliance*Review Data Protection Impact Assessments (DPIAs) and provide clear recommendations.
*Support the assessment and investigation of minor data breaches, escalating issues where necessary.
*Contribute to information governance audits, compliance checks, and risk assessments.
Records Management & Engagement*Work with IG Champions, service heads, and managers to improve records management standards and processes.
*Support awareness initiatives and the embedding of information governance policies and procedures across the organisation.
General Responsibilities*Maintain accurate case records, audit trails, and documentation.
*Identify risks and opportunities for process improvement.
*Support the Data Protection Officer in delivering corporate IG objectives and statutory requirements.
Requirements*Minimum 3 years’ experience working within Information Governance, Data Protection or FOI casework.
*Strong knowledge of Data Protection legislation and FOI principles.
*Experience handling complex IG casework and document redaction.
*Ability to conduct peer review and quality assurance of casework.
*Experience reviewing DPIAs and assessing data breaches (desirable).
*Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement skills.
*Strong analytical skills and attention to detail.
*Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet statutory deadlines.
Working ArrangementsThis role is hybrid, requiring a mixture of office presence and remote working. The office location is Civic Campus, Euclid Street, Swindon.
