Assistant Accountant (Fixed-Term / Year-End Support)

About the Role We are seeking an Assistant Accountant to support our Senior Accountant in the run-up to and past-31 March year end. This is a hands-on role within a small and collaborative finance team, playing a key part in ensuring the accuracy and efficiency of our financial processes.
Key Responsibilities *Prepare and complete balance sheet reconciliations.
*Perform bank reconciliations and manage associated queries.
*Maintain rent ledger control and resolve related issues.
*Process the weekly rent / housing management system interface.
*Run weekly payment batches and process ad hoc bank payments.
*Complete cash book postings and maintain accurate financial records.
*Post payroll journals and assist with related accounting entries.
*Manage pre-paid debit card top-ups and upload credit card transactions.
*Prepare and post various month end journals.
*Support the preparation of VAT returns (experience desirable).
*Provide general finance support and assist with year-end tasks as needed.
Skills & Experience Essential
*Strong finance experience in a similar accounting or assistant accountant role.
*Good understanding of core accounting processes such as reconciliations, journals, and ledger management.
*High attention to detail and strong organisational skills.
*Confidence working independently as well as part of a small team.
Desirable
*Experience using Unit4 (Agresso).
*Experience preparing or supporting VAT returns.
Personal Attributes *Proactive, reliable, and comfortable managing multiple deadlines.
*Strong communication skills.
*A collaborative mindset with a willingness to support colleagues across the finance function.
