Finance Assistant
Ely (office based)
£33,000-£40,000 per annum (dependent on experience and qualifications)
I am currently working with an Ely based company who is seeking an organised, detail-orientated Finance Assistant to support their busy Finance Department and contribute to the smooth running of their financial operations.
About the Role
As a Finance Assistant, you’ll play a vital role in maintaining accurate financial records, supporting monthly reporting cycles, and ensuring compliance with financial processes. You’ll work collaboratively within the Finance Department, supporting colleagues and contributing to the continuous improvement of systems and procedures.
Key Responsibilities
Accounts & Reporting
*Support the preparation of monthly management accounts, including journals, accruals, prepayments and overhead analysis.
*Assist with balance sheet, stock, and GRNI reconciliations.
*Maintain the fixed asset register and ensure bookkeeping records are accurate and up to date.
*Perform daily and monthly bank reconciliations.
*Assist with VAT returns and other statutory submissions.
*Manage the Purchase Ledger and resolve finance queries with internal teams.
*Use accounting software and Excel (including PivotTables & VLOOKUPs) to maintain and analyse financial data.
*Support ad-hoc reporting, projects and the development of finance processes and procedures.
Compliance & Controls
*Assist in preparing year-end audit schedules and supporting documentation.
*Ensure compliance with financial regulations, internal controls and GDPR requirements.
*Provide cover for colleagues during absences and support the wider finance team when required.
Team & Company Responsibilities
*Communicate effectively across departments and support collaborative working.

About You
You will be someone with strong attention to detail, good organisational skills and a proactive, positive approach to work.
Essential
*Minimum 24 months experience in an office or finance environment.
*Studying ACCA / ACA / CIMA, or AAT Level 4 qualified (or a finance graduate).
*Strong IT skills including Excel (PivotTables, VLOOKUPs), Word, SharePoint and PowerPoint.
*Good understanding of bookkeeping and basic accounting principles.
*Experience with reconciliations, journals or month-end processes.
*Excellent communication skills and the ability to work under pressure to tight deadlines.
*Strong numerical ability, accuracy, confidentiality and professionalism.
*Ability to multitask, prioritise and work collaboratively within a team.
Desirable
*Experience with MS Dynamics 365 Finance.
*Experience in a B2B environment.
*Advanced Excel skills or finance-related training.
*Previous experience resolving financial queries with suppliers or internal stakeholders.
*A proactive mindset with the ability to contribute to process improvement.
