Job Description:
We are seeking a patient, trauma-informed Tutor/Mentor to support a Year 11 young person who requires an alternative, nurturing approach to re-engage in education.
About the Young Person
The student has a history of anxiety and trauma. Attendance has been low throughout high school, and they have received ongoing support from CAMHS and counselling services.
They have a diagnosis of ASD, and CAMHS have advised that their social, emotional and mental health needs currently prevent them from accessing traditional school provision.
At this stage, an alternative provision tutor is needed to:
- Provide a calm, consistent, trusted relationship
- Work at their pace, beginning with mentoring
- Introduce academic learning (Maths & English) only when they are ready
- Support their gradual, supported reintegration back into an educational environment
- Act as a stable key adult throughout the process
We are looking for someone who has:
- Minimum 6 months experience working within education
- Ability to teach Maths and English at KS3/KS4 level
- Experience or understanding of SEMH needs
- A calm, empathetic, relationship-focused approach
- Ability to build trust and work closely with parents and professionals
- Commitment to consistency and reliability
This role will initially focus on:
- Mentoring, emotional regulation, building confidence
- Supporting anxiety reduction and re-engagement strategies
- Introducing academic content when appropriate
- Working collaboratively with the school and family to plan reintegration
Please do get in contact if you are interested in changing a young persons journey in education !
