Job Description:
Electrical Panel Builder / Automation Technician
Location: Plymouth (with occasional UK & overseas travel)
About the Role
We’re looking for a skilled and motivated Automation Technician to join our team in Plymouth. In this hands-on role, you’ll be involved in control panel building, machine integration and pneumatic system installation. While the position is primarily workshop-based, there will be opportunities for occasional site work both across the UK and overseas — perfect for someone who enjoys a bit of variety.
This role suits someone dependable, driven and confident working independently as well as within a team. You’ll ideally be time-served or bring equivalent experience within automation, control systems, or industrial equipment.
What You’ll Be Doing
You’ll play a key part in delivering high-quality automation solutions by:
*Interpreting customer electrical schematics and documentation.
*Building control panels to company and customer standards.
*Installing a wide range of electrical components including motors, starters, contactors, relays, PLCs and Safety PLCs.
*Working with various wiring types and accessories commonly used in industrial environments.
*Integrating pneumatic components and systems in line with supplied circuit drawings.
*Applying solid understanding of:
*Workshop practices
*Electrical symbols, engineering and layout drawings
*Inspection, testing and certification procedures
*Industrial safety standards and hazards
*Installation practices, regulations and relevant codes of practice
What We’re Looking For
You’ll thrive in this role if you are:
*Confident working both independently and as part of a team.
*Focused, organised and motivated to complete work efficiently and to a high standard.
*Skilled in fault-finding on electrical and pneumatic systems.
*Detail-oriented — particularly when marking up or updating circuit drawings.
*Capable of inspecting, testing and commissioning electrical installations.
*Able to guide apprentices or semi-skilled colleagues to ensure safe, high-quality work.
*Willing to travel for short periods (typically up to 2 weeks) for UK or overseas installations.
*Committed to following company Safe Systems of Work (SSO) at all times.
*Professional and customer-focused, acting as the face of the business while onsite.
*Able to effectively communicate with the Electrical Foreman and Project Manager regarding progress or potential delays.
