Job Description:
Principal Electronics Engineer
We are seeking a Principal Electronics Engineer to provide technical leadership within a team of around 15 engineers. The role involves leading electronics design, supporting R&D development, mentoring engineers and contributing to key engineering projects.
Key Responsibilities
*Lead electronics design and set engineering best practice
*Provide technical leadership across multidisciplinary projects
*Contribute to R&D and technology development
*Identify technical risks and oversee critical design activities
*Support bids, proposals and new business opportunities
*Mentor and support junior engineers
Technical Focus
*Circuit design, electronic components and PCB technology
*EMC, power management, servo control, processor interfacing and communications
*Power and signal transmission, system architecture and wiring
*Fault finding at PCB and system level
Requirements
*Degree in a relevant engineering discipline (IET accredited)
*Typically 10+ years’ experience in electronics engineering
*Strong experience in electronic design and analysis (e.g. circuit simulation, power budgeting)
*Experience leading projects or supervising engineers
*Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills
Desirable
*Chartered Engineer status
*EMC design to military standards
*Experience with Altium or Cadence OrCAD
*Knowledge of motors, drives or control systems
*Familiarity with tools such as JIRA, Confluence or MS Project
Personal Attributes
*Strong communication and stakeholder engagement skills
*Organised, proactive and detail-oriented
*Willingness to travel occasionally to customer or supplier sites
