Assistant Director, Asset Management and Property Services (Interim)
Location: South West England, Hybrid
Rate: £850 per day
Contract: Initial 6 months (likely extension)
Spencer Clarke Group are working with a Local Authority in the South West to appoint an Interim Assistant Director - Asset Management and Property Services.
This is a senior leadership opportunity, overseeing a complex corporate estate and property services function, with a strong focus on governance, compliance, capital investment, risk and value for money.
Responsibilities
* Lead the council’s asset management and property services function across a diverse portfolio (corporate, operational, education and rural estates).

* Provide strategic advice to senior leaders and members on estate strategy, investment, risk and governance.

* Oversee statutory compliance and building safety across the portfolio (including fire safety, asbestos, M&E, water safety and related obligations).

* Lead and assure capital programme planning and delivery, balancing service need, financial constraints and operational risk.

* Drive disposals, acquisitions and broader estate optimisation activity, supporting financial strategy and service outcomes.

* Lead and develop multi-disciplinary teams (estates, FM, surveying, engineering, development and asset data).

About You
* Senior leadership background within local authority/public sector property, estates, FM or asset management.

* Strong track record across compliance/building safety, corporate estates governance and complex stakeholder environments.

* Comfortable advising at senior level on risk, investment decisions, disposals/acquisitions and strategic estate planning.

* Able to lead multi-disciplinary teams through change and competing priorities.
