Job Description:
Senior Packaging Designer - (Corrugated / Cardboard)
Leeds (Office Based)
£55,000 - £60,000 + Benefits
Occasional UK travel required to support customer and supplier engagement
We are recruiting for an experienced Packaging/CAD Designer specialising in cardboard packaging design to join a growing and ambitious organisation within the packaging sector. This is a highly influential role where your expertise will directly shape packaging solutions for major products across multiple industries - from consumer electronics to power tools and more. Working closely with sales teams and suppliers, you will help design innovative and commercially viable packaging solutions that meet customer requirements while aligning with manufacturing capabilities.
The Role
This is a hands-on structural design position where you will act as the subject matter expert for corrugated packaging design. You will work closely with internal sales teams to understand customer packaging requirements, translate these into technical designs, and present concepts back to customers through CAD drawings and visual demonstrations. You’ll also collaborate with purchasing and supplier partners to ensure packaging designs are aligned with board grades, machine capabilities, and manufacturing constraints.
Key Responsibilities
- Work alongside sales teams to understand customer packaging requirements and product specifications
- Design structural packaging solutions using CAD specifically for corrugated / cardboard materials
- Develop prototypes, drawings, and visual demonstrations to present concepts to customers
- Provide expert guidance on board grades, flute types, and material selection
- Ensure designs align with supplier manufacturing capabilities and machine outputs
- Work closely with purchasing and supplier partners to optimise packaging solutions
- Identify opportunities to improve packaging performance, efficiency, and cost
- Support customer presentations and technical discussions where required
What We’re Looking For
This role requires a true packaging specialist with deep technical knowledge of corrugated packaging manufacturing. Essential experience includes:
- Proven experience designing corrugated / cardboard packaging
- Strong knowledge of flutes, board grades, and paper materials
- Understanding of corrugated manufacturing processes and machine capabilities
- Proven experience using CAD for structural packaging design
- Ability to translate customer requirements into practical manufacturing solutions
- Strong commercial awareness and ability to advise sales teams on feasibility
- Confident communicator who can work cross-functionally with sales, purchasing, and suppliers
This is a key strategic hire where your expertise will have a direct commercial impact. The business is investing in specialist design capability to ensure packaging solutions are technically robust, commercially competitive and deliver the best possible outcomes for customers. You will play a pivotal role in helping shape future packaging innovations and ensuring designs are both creative and manufacturable.
