Job Description:
Team Leader – Children’s Residential Care (Maternity Cover)
Location: Oswestry (SY11)
Salary: £37,810.22 per year
Shift Pattern: 2 on / 4 off (including sleep-ins)
Reports to: Registered Manager
About the RoleAn opportunity for an experienced residential childcare professional to step into a Team Leader position within a children’s residential home supporting young people aged 8–25 with complex needs, trauma backgrounds, and emotional or behavioural challenges.
The role involves leading shifts, supporting staff, and ensuring high-quality, trauma-informed care while helping young people develop in a safe and stable environment.
Key Responsibilities*Lead shifts and support staff to deliver care aligned with individual care plans
*Provide supervision, guidance, and mentoring to residential care staff
*Contribute to developing and reviewing care plans
*Support the management team with daily operations and maintaining home standards
*Ensure safeguarding procedures are followed and concerns are addressed
*Build relationships with families, professionals, and external agencies
*Support staff training and development
*Assist with records, reporting, home maintenance, and budgets
Essential Requirements*Minimum 1 year experience in residential childcare
*Level 3 Diploma in Residential Childcare (or working towards)
*Understanding of child development and trauma-informed practice
*Knowledge of safeguarding and legal frameworks
*Strong communication, organisation, and leadership skills
*Ability to lead by example and maintain professional boundaries
*Competent with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook)
*Flexible to work shifts, weekends, and sleep-ins
*Full UK driving licence
Desirable*Level 5 Leadership & Management qualification
*Previous supervisory or management experience
*Knowledge of residential childcare regulations and standards
