Job Description:
Assistant Accountant
*Annual Salary: £30,000
*Location: Birmingham
*Job Type: Full-time, Permanent
We are excited to offer a fantastic opportunity for an experienced Assistant Accountant to join a well-known automotive brand in Birmingham. This role is ideal for someone who thrives in a high-performing team environment and is committed to providing accurate and efficient financial support across multiple business areas.
Day-to-day of the role:
*Manage daily banking, cashbook posting, and bank reconciliations.
*Conduct balance sheet reconciliations including accruals and prepayments.
*Process journals and support the month-end timetable.
*Maintain vehicle ledger, including new/used vehicle costing and profit analysis.
*Reconcile vehicle stock, work-in-progress (WIP), aged debts, sundry balances, and manufacturer bonus claims.
*Monitor and reconcile manufacturer incentives, holdbacks, and funding.
*Support purchase ledger and sales ledger processes.
*Review and investigate discrepancies across all ledgers.
*Assist with VAT returns and compliance-related tasks.
*Prepare management information and financial reports.
*Assist with the completion of monthly composite submissions.
*Support stock checks across sales and service departments.
*Handle ad-hoc accounting tasks to support the wider management team.
*The role primarily operates Monday–Friday, with occasional weekend flexibility during peak periods such as month-end.
Required Skills & Qualifications:
*Experience in an automotive dealership accounts department.
*Strong understanding of accounting routines: month-end, reconciliations, ledgers, WIP, stock, and composites.
*Proficiency in Excel and general Microsoft Office skills.
*Excellent attention to detail and ability to work to strict deadlines.
*Proactive, organised, and able to work both independently and collaboratively.
