Job Description:
Business Support Officer
*Job type: Temporary, Full-time
*Location: Kirklees Council, WF16 9EU
*Duration: 1–2 months
*Pay: £13.26 per hour (PAYE)
Kirklees Council are looking for a Business Support Officer to join the central Business Support Team on a temporary basis. This is a fantastic opportunity for an organised and customer-focused individual to support a busy service with a wide range of administrative and business support duties.
The central Business Support Team acts as the hub of the organisation, ensuring operations run smoothly and efficiently. You will play a key role in helping the service deliver high performance, continuous improvement and excellent customer service aligned to Kirklees Council’s key objectives.
Essential Requirements
*Enhanced Adult DBS (current)
*Pre-employment screening checks completed to enable an immediate start
*Strong administrative experience and excellent IT skills
*Ability to handle confidential and sensitive information appropriately
*Confident communicator able to handle enquiries, complaints and complex calls
Key Responsibilities
The successful candidate will support the Business Support Team Leader and wider service, undertaking duties including but not limited to:
Administrative & IT Support
*Specialist word processing, producing high-quality documents formatted to service standards.
*Typing, data input and data retrieval using various service-based IT systems.
*Producing reports, mailshots, basic statistical and management information.
*Processing invoices and supporting financial administration tasks.
Meetings & Events
*Arranging and organising meetings and events.
*Preparing documentation, agendas and supporting materials.
*Taking accurate minutes and ensuring timely distribution.
Customer Service & Communication
*Responding to non-routine enquiries and complaints.
*Providing a professional reception service – greeting visitors and managing enquiries.
*Directing complex calls to the appropriate officers.
Operational Support
*Managing stock levels, ordering supplies and maintaining resources.
*Undertaking supervised project work as required.
*Ensuring reception, kitchen and meeting room areas are tidy and well stocked.
*Providing post, scanning and indexing services, including accurate office-wide distribution.
Working Hours
*Monday – Thursday: 8:30am – 16:30pm
*Friday: 8:30am – 16:00pm
Some flexibility may be considered regarding start and finish times.

You will ensure high standards of accuracy, efficiency and customer service across a wide range of business support functions. Working collaboratively with colleagues, you will contribute to Kirklees Council and KNH’s purpose, vision and service objectives, supporting continuous improvement across the service.
