A growing environmental consultancy is seeking a Consultant Ecologist to join its expanding ecology team based in Kent. The organisation works with a diverse portfolio of clients, delivering ecological expertise across a wide range of environmental and development projects throughout the UK.
With continued growth and increasing demand for ecological services, the business is committed to delivering practical, sustainable solutions that support responsible development while protecting and enhancing natural habitats. The team works collaboratively to provide high-quality ecological surveys, environmental assessments, and biodiversity strategies that meet both regulatory requirements and client needs.
Operating from its Norwich office, the ecology team plays an important role in supporting projects from early planning stages through to long-term monitoring and habitat management. The Consultant Ecologist will contribute technical expertise while working alongside experienced colleagues within a supportive and progressive environment.

Your Role and Responsibilities:
While in this position your duties may include, but are not limited to:
*Lead and undertake ecological surveys, site assessments, and monitoring programmes across a variety of environmental and development projects.
*Support the delivery of Biodiversity Net Gain (BNG) strategies and assist with their integration into project design and planning.
*Provide technical input into Environmental Impact Assessments (EIAs), ecological reports, and habitat management plans.
*Assist with the preparation of technical documentation including ecological assessments, survey reports, and biodiversity strategies.
*Contribute to project delivery throughout the full lifecycle, from initial scoping and design through to implementation and monitoring.
*Collaborate with clients, project teams, and stakeholders to deliver practical and sustainable ecological solutions.
*Provide guidance and support to junior colleagues where appropriate, encouraging knowledge sharing and professional development within the team.
*Undertake regular travel to project sites, which may involve covering significant distances as part of project delivery.
*Maintain accurate ecological records, survey data, and supporting project documentation.
*Complete required training and professional development activities to ensure professional standards and regulatory compliance are maintained.
*Assist in maintaining high technical standards across ecological work and contribute to continuous improvement within the team.
*Work collaboratively with colleagues to support efficient project delivery and positive client relationship

What You Will Need to Apply:
*Experience working within ecology, environmental science, or a related environmental discipline.
*Practical experience conducting ecological surveys, habitat assessments, and biodiversity monitoring.
*Understanding of Biodiversity Net Gain principles and ecological impact assessment processes.
*Full UK driving licence and access to a vehicle to support regular travel to project sites.
*Strong organisational skills with the ability to manage workloads and meet project deadlines.
*Analytical approach with strong attention to detail when recording and interpreting ecological data.
*Effective communication skills with the ability to work with clients, stakeholders, and colleagues.
*Ability to work both independently and collaboratively within a professional team environment.
*Pragmatic and adaptable mindset with the ability to balance technical expertise with practical project solutions.
*Passion for ecology, biodiversity enhancement, and sustainable environmental management.
*Interest in continuing professional development and progressing within the ecological sector.
