US State and Local Tax Manager
cer Financial’s client is a leading professional services provider. They are looking for a SALT (State & Local Tax) Tax Manager to manage their clients with the asset management sector (hedge funds, debt funds, private equity funds and real estate funds and their management entities.
Our clients is looking for managers, specifically with US state and local income tax experience, specifically within the financial services industry.
Your key responsibilities:
The incumbent will be charged with overseeing PE fund US state tax compliance projects for clients taking in consideration of the risk, operational, and tax technical elements. Carrying out research of US state tax legislation and explaining the effect to asset management clients. The right person will coach junior staff members (UK and US) - coordinating multiple teams’ schedules and milestones.
Skills and attributes for success:
· Being proficient in US state & local taxation.
· A solid understanding of state tax concepts (ie nexus, state apportionment, unitary filings, fund of fund reporting, state tax withholding, etc.)
· Experience in reviewing state tax partnership and corporation returns, which includes state combined corporate filings.
· Experience in offering clients advise on the US state tax outcomes of business travel/work location; US investments; and fund frameworks.
· Proficiency in juggling multiple priorities while managing internal and external stakeholders.
· To qualify for the role, you must have
· CPA, Enrolled Agent status or equivalent qualification/degree specifically within accounting or taxation (or similar qualification, CTA, AAT etc)
· The incumbent must have experience in the preparation and review of state partnership and corporation tax returns.
· You must also have experience with computing state taxable income and state apportionment and state tax withholding or estimated payments.
· Good working knowledge of Go Systems tax software or similar technology.
Ideally, you’ll also have:
· Ability to manage large scale fund compliance projects, multiple funds/deliverables, and cross-border teams of 10+ or more.
· Ability to collaborate effectively with non-tax stakeholders at their clients to go through US tax concepts.
