Job Description:
Operational Policy, Assurance & Compliance Lead to strengthen oversight of operational processes, policy frameworks and compliance across casework functions.
This role sits within a small assurance team responsible for ensuring that operational activity adheres to defined policies, governance frameworks and legislative requirements. The successful candidate will lead policy reviews, design assurance processes and provide senior leadership with clear reporting on compliance risks and operational improvements.
Based in London. Hybrid working: 50% on-site. The role will require some travel.
Inside IR35. Day rate £400-550 pd gross umbrella, depending on experience.
Key Responsibilities
*Lead the review and development of operational policies, ensuring they remain fit-for-purpose and aligned with legislative requirements.
*Conduct policy gap analysis and assurance reviews across operational casework teams.
*Develop and implement audit, compliance and assurance frameworks to monitor adherence to operational processes.
*Produce high-quality assurance reports and recommendations for senior leadership.
*Identify systemic compliance issues and implement mitigation actions.
*Work closely with investigation, information recovery and findings teams to ensure policies support operational delivery.
*Develop and deliver policy and process training to operational staff.
*Manage and mentor a junior assurance/compliance officer.
*Support governance groups and senior forums with papers and evidence-based insight.
Key Requirements
*Strong experience in policy development, assurance, compliance or audit within government, policing, investigations or similarly regulated environments.
*Demonstrable experience reviewing complex operational processes and producing clear analytical reports for senior stakeholders.
*Ability to challenge constructively and influence senior operational leaders.
*Experience working with sensitive information and high-assurance environments.
*Excellent stakeholder management across multiple teams and locations.
Security Requirements
*Active SC clearance is required to start.
*Successful candidates must be eligible and willing to undergo DV clearance while in post.
Desirable Experience
*Statutory inspection, assurance or investigative environments.
*Policy development linked to new legislation.
*Experience supporting newly established organisations or complex public bodies.
