Overview
A leading organisation within the UK & Ireland’s commercial decarbonisation and offsite energy systems sector is looking for an experienced Principal Mechanical Design Engineer to join their expanding design team.
This is a fantastic opportunity to work on major low-carbon and renewable energy projects across commercial and public sector environments, with excellent scope to influence engineering standards and drive innovation.
The Role
You will take ownership of mechanical design delivery from concept to commissioning. Working closely with design, BIM, fabrication, and project teams, you’ll ensure high-quality, coordinated, build-ready solutions.
Key Responsibilities
*Lead mechanical design on commercial decarbonisation projects
*Produce mechanical schematics, calculations, plant selections, BOMs, and specifications
*Develop and validate BMS control strategies from early stage to commissioning
*Ensure designs meet regulatory standards, compliance, and client requirements
*Work collaboratively with internal teams to ensure seamless project delivery
*Support, mentor, and guide junior engineers
*Drive improvements in design processes and technical quality
About You

Essential Skills & Experience
*Mechanical design engineering experience within building services, energy systems, or similar
*Strong understanding of low-carbon, renewable, or energy-efficient systems
*Competent in delivering complete mechanical design packages
*Comfortable leading design output on multiple projects
*Strong communication skills and ability to collaborate across departments
*Experience mentoring junior engineers
